PROJECT OVERVIEW
Initial Assessment and Inspection
With fast paced building development in greater Boston area finding a professional dependent gutter installation company could be difficult. Boston Gutter Solutions has been recently contacted by a developer for a new white seamless K-style gutter installation. The contractor needed the services as soon as possible and we were ready to respond protecting the house any further water exposure.
Our first step involved estimating the project and creating a plan of action. Our experienced technician provided a free quote, noting that the property was a new construction with pristine PVC fascia boards and no existing gutters. No demolition was needed. After measuring the gutter lengths and determining optimal downspout locations based on the client’s preferences, we were prepared to proceed.
The roof’s design did not require 6” K-style commercial gutters. Most corners had pre-positioned pipes indicating where the downspouts would terminate. We measured a total of about 220 feet of gutters, along with five downspouts. With only a few corners needing precise cuts, the project was straightforward.
Planning and Execution of the Gutter Installation
According to the estimator’s notes, our crew brought a range of ladders to the job site, including a crucial 40-foot ladder to ensure timely and safe completion. We installed 5” K-style seamless
gutters, as requested by the client, which suited the roof area perfectly. The gutters were gently sloped at the industry-standard rate of ¼” per every 10 feet, which, combined with the fascia’s height, created an elegant and functional appearance.
Our team of three included two technicians measuring and one on the ground preparing materials—cutting to size, securing hidden hangers, and sealing end caps. We used 2.5” stainless screws and construction-grade sealant specifically designed for aluminum gutters, along with high-gauge materials. Hidden brackets were spaced every foot, aiming for the rafter tails. For corners, we utilized connecting pieces called strip miters, the best method for joining seamless pieces. We completed the entire project in just one day.
Challenges Faced
Coordinating different crews on a new development, especially with New England’s unpredictable weather, is no easy feat. We had to finish the job in one day due to the landscaping crew’s arrival the following day. A key challenge involved routing downspouts along the trim while ensuring an aesthetically pleasing finish, particularly around molding and electrical wires.
Using strip miters required precise cuts with a chop saw. Additionally, the client requested that the upper-level downspout drain into the lower-level gutter without exposing the roof. Working from a 40-foot ladder while handling materials demanded careful attention to safety, and we take safety procedures very seriously at Boston Gutter Solutions.
Outcome and Results
By the end of the day, our client was extremely impressed with the quality of our work. The project was a resounding success, leaving both us and the building developer satisfied. The new gutter system effectively channels rainwater away from the foundation, preventing water damage and protecting the siding from rot.
While overhanging trees provide shade in summer, their falling leaves can clog gutters in fall. Therefore, we recommended gutter guards for added protection, but the client opted for regular gutter cleaning instead, which we suggested should occur twice a year to maintain the manufacturer’s warranty.
Customer Feedback
The contractor expressed gratitude for our quick response and timely completion. We received praise for our workmanship and professionalism, and the developer assured us of ongoing business and recommendations within the community.
